Dear Friends
We’re excited and proud to announce the release of our new single “Home”, our first in nearly a decade.
As you’d expect, a lot has happened since we returned to Perth from Manchester, UK. Heraclitus said that change is the only constant in life. He was mostly right, but not entirely. There were breakups and makeups; weddings and births; job changes and home moves. Yet two things remained the same: our partnership and our love of music.
With the demands of raising young families and working day jobs, ShadowPlay faded into our reveries. We had become one of those “boring adults” who used to play the guitar or drums, or who used to be in a band. Instruments were neglected in favour of toys (both big boys’ and kids’) and band practice in favour of careers and play-dates.
We’ve somehow muddled our way out of our grown-up stupor and blown off the cobwebs that cocooned our instruments (a risky task in Australia, home to some of the nastiest arachnids in the world). Rediscovering our instruments, chords and scales was a slow but delightful process. Soon, abstract notes became melodies and harmonies, and words became a song.
“Home” is Alitia’s story of being lost and then found; of the pursuit of dreams across oceans, but ultimately finding it right here: at home. “Home” is our collective story.
“Home” was also our “proof of concept” – to prove to ourselves that we still had the passion and ability to write music and tell stories. To that end, we are very pleased with the result and look forward to sharing many more stories with you.
We hope you enjoy “Home”.
Yours truly
Alitia, Duane, Guy, Linus & Uwe
